PhotoBooth also "flashes" by making the screen fade from white once. This actually works too if you have a pretty bright panel
Also, it’s funny how the image counts down and the movie counts up. I like counting down, as the camera icon looks like a zero

@ nacho: I sent the code for this upstream. Integration of this is being worked afaik. But if anybody wants to beat Daniel to it… go give it a try
@ Bram: This "fake a flash"-thing is implemented in cheese already according the the projects maintainer. The purpose of this countdown-thing is to help polish cheese a bit. I made the screencast before I changed my mind about the counting-order.

Check the 2.21.5. If you help me I’d like to experiment with overlaying this above the picture itself (thing a 50% black rectangle with rounded edges) for both taking photos and recording videos. If you care, catch via jabber (same as email).
